It’s hard to believe we are less than six months from holding our Marvel: Crisis Protocol painting competition, The Path of the Worthy, at Adepticon 2024! Between now and then, we’ll be sharing some of Head Judge Dallas Kemp’s comments on the entries that medaled. Today, we’ll feast our eyes on all of the Bronze entrees from The Path of the Worthy 2023. Dallas, take it away!
Jason took a Bronze in the squad category with a collection of X-Men done up in the black and white X-Force theme. The cohesive theme and bases tie the team together nicely!
Chris Spotts took a bronze in duel, a highly contested category, with this epic Hulk vs Hulkbuster diorama. Look at all that destruction he incorporated into the plinth.
Wolverine and Sabretooth fight it out in this classic scene built and painted by Steve Boatwright. You can feel the frigid north from the painting all the way through the basing details!
Comics come alive in Jeff Coughtry’s “Mysterio is Back” entry in Single category. The smoke and mirrors are no trick in this piece.
When Deadpool arrives, he arrives in style. Chris White – “Fourth Wall” really shows how you can transform existing terrain pieces like the taco truck with a fresh coat of paint!
Eric West’s “The Wolverine” gives Logan a rich and warm scene that shows the fierce Canuklehead at his best.
James Zewe – “Ghosting Spider” swings into action with some custom web lines and lamp post. There’s lots of action and energy conveyed in this piece to sell the story.
High impact is what David Vedder was going for in their “Rhino Arrives” entry that took a bronze coin, and we think they achieved it in the way Rhino interacts with the custom plinth terrain.
Jeremy Roberts smashed the walls (or in this case the roof) of reality in his entry that took home a bronze coin. The bright magic yellows of the Ancient One stands in stark contrast to the worn look of the plinth.
Diego Civetta created a striking piece with his Storm. The curved backdrop adds so much to the feeling of weightlessness.
Kingpin stands triumphant in Alexander’s bronze entry. What a crisp fit on that white suit! The constraint on the white really pays off in this interpretation of Fisk.
Luis Andrés Lozano Garcia brought Spid…er…I mean Ant Man to life in this bronze winning piece. The cool tone silvers really shine on this against the warm tones on the suit and base.
And that’s it for Bronze! We’ll be back with some Silver Medal entrees soon and we hope you’ll consider joining us at Adepticon and entering a piece for The Path of the Worthy next year!
