Scene-To-Stats: Imperial Mudtroopers

11/02/2026

In today’s transmission, the Galactic Empire will be getting even more reinforcements! Let’s see how Mudtroopers play on the tabletop in Star Wars™: Legion.

Wearing partial armor reinforced with respirators and sealed bodysuits, Mudtroopers were equipped to fight in harsh environments, including the mud soaked battlefields of Mimban. While stormtroopers often received the Empire’s glory, it was the Mudtroopers who endured, well, the mud, and the relentless fighting on the front lines.

In Star Wars: Legion, that resilience defines how Imperial Mudtroopers approach the battlefield. As a Corps unit, they emphasize steady advances and affordable dependability over flashy abilities. Unhindered allows them to ignore the movement penalties caused by difficult terrain, letting them maintain momentum across difficult scatter terrain. That mobility makes Mudtroopers particularly useful for reaching advantageous positions and steadily applying pressure to objectives.

Once they get there, they are built to stay. Mudtroopers have a fairly average defensive roll but, importantly, they surge to Block, giving them additional survivability as they advance. Armed with E-10 Blaster Rifles, the squad shoots consistent ranged attacks out to Range 3, while Bludgeon gives them a simple but effective melee option should the fighting become close and personal. They may not have the offensive burst of elite Imperial forces, but their combination of durability and dependable firepower allows them to fulfill their role nicely.

From there, commanders can decide what kind of Mudtrooper unit they need depending on which upgrade they opt for.

For sustained ranged engagements, the Z-6 Mudtrooper brings the familiar Z-6 Rotary Blaster into the squad. With Anti-Personnel 3, this heavy weapon dramatically increases the unit’s ability to threaten enemy infantry at Range 3.

The SX-21 Mudtrooper pushes the unit toward a much more aggressive role. Armed with the SX-21 Scatter Gun, this upgrade trades long range consistency for devastating close range potential through Assault 2.

The Mudtrooper Squad takes the unit in another direction entirely. Adding four additional miniatures transforms the unit into a larger formation built to absorb casualties while maintaining combat effectiveness. Beyond simply increasing the squad’s size, the Mudtrooper Squad grants Indomitable and increases its cohesion range to 1, making it much harder for Suppression to dictate the unit’s actions.

As you can see, each upgrade changes how the unit applies the same fundamental strengths. The Z-6 Mudtrooper reinforces sustained ranged pressure, the SX-21 Mudtrooper rewards aggressive advances into contested objectives, and the Mudtrooper Squad creates a resilient block of infantry capable of absorbing punishment while continuing to move forward.

Regardless of which option you choose, Imperial Mudtroopers reward careful positioning so they can control the battlefield. Their combination of Unhindered, and flexible upgrade options gives Imperial commanders several ways to field the soldiers of Mimban without losing the resilience at the heart of the unit.
