Marvel: Crisis Protocol Card Update May 2025

05/20/2025

Welcome back to another Atomic Mass Games Transmission!

This month, we have an update to Marvel: Crisis Protocol! You can find the updated documents on the Rules page for Marvel: Crisis Protocol on our website. There are updated Team Tactic Cards and character Stat Cards in the May 2025 Print-and-Play document. The FAQ and Errata document has changed to show how those updated cards can be used in your games.

As part of our significant repacking and reissuing project announced and discussed during the AdeptiCon 2025 Roadmap presentation, the majority of previously released character packs are being recombined into larger multi-character affiliation packs. This process has many benefits for the line including SKU consolidation, moving the product into the new multilingual format begun with the release of CP143 Earth’s Mightiest Core Set, and helping to control product costs to ensure that we are offering the best value possible to players.

The start of this multi-year project has already started to hit shelves, such as in the CP220 Midnight Sons Affiliation Pack previewed here. As we’ve worked to reissue these products, our Development team has taken the time to review all characters and cards set for each reissue product to determine if any adjustments would align those characters closer to our vision of how they should play in the game or if any adjustments are necessary to correct any character that is too far under or above the balance curve we have set for the game. If we determined a change was worth working on, it was put into our full playtest process just as if it was a brand-new piece of development.

The updated cards in the May 2025 Print-and-Play document show the results of that work for the reissued products that are expected to release over the course of the next 12 months. As the full reissue process is scheduled to take place over the next couple of years, this means that players will see more consistent, though smaller, rebalance drops than previously done as we continue to complete and compile rebalances for future products. WIth this in mind, we will be utilizing Print and Play documents for the initial release of these changes, ensuring all players have access to these changes as they are completed instead of waiting for each individual product that contains a rebalanced card to release.

Some of the changes were primarily made to make the rules clearer and more intuitive. X-23’s Frenzy, Angela’s Angelic Assassin, and Carnage’s Paint the Town Red superpowers changed to be used after the attack is resolved so that those characters can gain power from attacks to pay for their superpower.

Other changes are being made to increase or decrease the power level of characters for better balance against the rest of the game, such as Carnage going up to 8 Stamina and getting the additional effect of extra dice on the attack he makes as part of Paint the Town Red. Only Toad and Bullseye got changes to decrease their effectiveness. This was done so that they don’t overshadow other characters that have a Threat Value of 2 in quite so many situations.

Other characters were reworked more extensively, such as Doctor Strange. His new Leadership, Judgment of the Vishanti, gives his squad very easy access to the Hex special condition. This further reinforces his Defenders’ ability to withstand attacks.

The following is a comprehensive change log:
