Greetings STAR WARS: Legion Players, and welcome to another Atomic Mass Games Transmission!
It’s time for another bi-annual STAR WARS: Legion Development Update! In this article we will be covering changes to the Core Rulebook, Tours of Duty Rulebook, Errata Document, and more! We will also discuss some brand-new content available to download and play right now! We’ve got a lot to cover, so strap in!

We have reworked the AI keyword and the Droid Trooper unit type! The AI keyword now reads as follows:
When a unit that has the AI keyword starts its Make Action step, it must make 1 of the actions listed in its AI keyword if it does not have a faceup Order token and 1 of the following conditions are met:
If the unit with the AI keyword cannot make any of its listed actions, it makes 1 fewer action during its Make Actions Step.
The Droid Trooper unit type now reads as follows:
So what changed? Droid Trooper units can now be Suppressed, though this does not cause them to make 1 less action. Instead, they will have to make the action listed by their AI keyword if they do not have a faceup Order token. Additionally, Vehicle units that do not have a faceup Order token and have either a Vehicle Damage token or have had half or more of their miniatures be defeated must also make their AI action. We have made these changes to make the AI keyword occur more frequently and have a greater impact on the game. The previous iteration of the AI keyword was too easy to play around, either through army building or through positioning on the battlefield. The Droid Trooper and AI rules have always been intended to be a detriment to these units, but the penalties of these rules were so easy to bypass that they often became benefits.
As part of these changes, we have created two new unit types to coincide with these changes: Heavy Trooper and Heavy Droid Trooper. These new unit types have the following rules:
HEAVY TROOPER
HEAVY DROID TROOPER
These new unit types open future design space and allow us to more accurately represent those units that were a bit too big to be a normal Trooper, but did not quite make sense as Vehicles.

This developer update sees new versions of the Strike Teams for each faction, with new Unit and Upgrade Cards! These units have been reworked to more accurately capture the fantasy of sniper or saboteur teams laying in wait to ambush the enemy and cause maximum damage.
In addition to now being the Support Rank, each unit now has the Incognito and Prepared Position keywords. Prepared Position allows these units to begin the game far in advance of the rest of the army, while Incognito keeps them safe from enemy fire until they are ready to strike!
The Heavy Weapon Upgrade Cards for these units have also been reworked. The sabotuer Upgrade Cards now confer the powerful Assault X keyword to their unit, increasing their ranged firepower by upgrading dice when the unit attacks an enemy within Range 1. The sniper Upgrade Cards have been completely reworked and are now only available to Strike Teams- don’t worry, ARC Troopers get a special treat! The new sniper rifles have the Overwhelm and Sniper Team keywords, in addition to Range 2-5 and revised dice pools. The Overwhelm keyword makes the attack Suppressive if 1 or more Aim tokens are spent during that attack, and the Sniper Team keyword reads as follows:
SNIPER TEAM
When a weapon with the Sniper Team keyword is added to an Attack Pool, if it is the only weapon in the Attack Pool, the attacking unit has not made a Move during its Activation, and each miniature in the attacking unit has LOS to 1 or more miniatures in the defending unit, you may upgrade each of that weapon’s attack dice.
Additionally, if a weapon with the Sniper Team keyword is the only weapon in an Attack Pool and the attacking unit has not made a Move during its Activation, after the Convert Attack Surges step that unit’s controlling player may cancel all the attack dice in the Attack Pool. If 1 or more CRITICAL results were cancelled in this way, the defending unit suffers 1 Wound.
This powerful keyword still allows snipers to push damage through defenses, but in a more controlled and interactive way for both players that more accurately captures the fantasy of a sniper. The previous versions with Pierce 1 were largely uninteractive, and did not adequately capture the narrative of these units.
In addition to these larger changes, there are a host of smaller rules updates and clarifications. The full list of changed sections can be found in the Change Log in the Core Rulebook, reproduced below:

There is a new section to the Errata document called “Updated Cards” which lists the cards that have been updated from their printed versions and the location to download the updated card.
To coincide with the addition of Heavy Troopers and Heavy Droid Troopers, Aqua Droids and Droidekas have been erratad to be Heavy Droid Troopers. This errata is accompanied by new Unit Cards for each unit which can be found in the Separatist Alliance Unit Cards file at atomicmassgames.com/swlegiondocs/.
The STAP Riders unit have had their AI keyword errata’d to AI: Dodge as part of the AI keyword changes.

As we’ve stated before, Star Wars: Legion is a living and breathing game system; balance must be carefully maintained and adjusted over time. As developers we take care to do our due diligence while making these adjustments, assuring that they are supported by both data and playtest analysis.
The following points adjustments are changes we are confident making based on the analysis of internal and external data and supported by playtest.

Three new Story Arcs and their associated rules are now available for Tours of Duty!
The Weekend War sees your Paragon race against the clock to secure a vital system before stellar hazards and anomalies make it unreachable!
Birth of A Legend chronicles your Paragon’s rise to power as they strive to fulfill their destiny and gather followers to their cause!
A Pirate’s Life presents your Paragon with the opportunity to sail the stars in pursuit of plunder and earn their own pirate craft!
Four new Command Cards have been added to Tours of Duty! These new Command Cards are exclusive to Tours of Duty and can be unlocked each time a player’s Paragon reaches a new VR.
These new Story Arcs and Command Cards are available now to download and play! We greatly enjoy reading all of your Tours of Duty stories and seeing your Paragons, and can’t wait to see how your campaigns unfold as we continue to expand Tours of Duty!
Two new Battle Forces are now available to download and play: The Ohnaka Gang and the Rapid Interdiction Force!
The Ohnaka Gang is a mercenary Battle Force that highlights the pirate king of Florum himself: Hondo Ohnaka. Hondo leads his (un)trustworthy band of Weequay Pirates and their WLO-5 Speeder Tank mounts to victory with new special rules and 3 Battle Force exclusive Command Cards.
The Rapid Interdiction Force is a Separatist Alliance Battle Force that puts the pedal to the metal to satisfy the need for speed. General Grievous, Wheelbike Warlord and Admiral Trench lead this Battle Force that is all about Vehicles, Heavy Troopers, and the ability to strike hard and fast. New special rules as well as a new Special Issue Geonosian Engineers unit ensure this Separatist Alliance army is tuned up and ready to go full throttle!
New Upgrade Cards are available now! These new Upgrade Cards are a preview of a future release and will appear in a future printed product. These Upgrade Cards can be found in the New Universal Upgrade Cards file at atomicmassgames.com/swlegiondocs/.
9 new unique character Upgrade Cards are now available:
These new character Upgrade Cards continue the philosophy and design cycle started with Agent Kallus, Cassian Andor, Clone Captain Rex, and Kraken. We are very excited to give players more opportunities to include their favorite characters in their armies, while increasing build options and list diversity.
There is a new Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers Squad Upgrade Card. This new Upgrade Card allows players to field their Pyke Syndicate Foot Soldiers in larger units, which can additionally ride in Transports, unlike other units with similar upgrades.
A new Imperial Probe Droid Upgrade Card takes to the battlefield. This new upgrade allows Galactic Empire players to add Imperial Probe Droids to their units, which can download Observation tokens on enemy units and convert them into Aim tokens!
Finally, Improvised Orders has been reworked to be a unique Upgrade Card in addition to no longer readying during each End Phase. The previous version of Improvised Orders was fairly ubiquitous in armies and allowed players too much control over their Order Pools. By reducing the availability and power of the upgrade, more emphasis and importance is placed on the Order Pool and the choices players make to deal with its variance.

We made it! That concludes the summary of the changes and new content available right now as part of our April Developer Update. We’ll see you again in November for more updates!
