From Scene to Stats: Range Trooper

The Empire utilized all manner of specialized troopers in their effort to bring peace and justice to the galaxy. On far-flung frontier worlds, it was Imperial Range Troopers who brought such order to bear. They were known as one of the more difficult Imperial outfits for a soldier to qualify for, with specialized training and equipment not issued to a standard stormtrooper. Heavy armor insulated with fur allowed them to be deployed to even harsher climates than Imperial Snow Troopers, and the difficult nature of their postings led to a culture that viewed other units as “soft” or “amateur.” Join us now as we take a closer look at Range Troopers for Star Wars™: Legion.

Range Troopers support Imperial operations in the harshest of climates. While their speed is slower than that of a regular stormtrooper, the armor they wear provides increased protection against incoming attacks, giving the unit Armor 1. Scale and Spur also reflect their superior equipment, as Range Trooper units are well known for their trademark Gription Boots. Finally, Indomitable combined with Courage 2 helps ensure that the unit shrugs off suppression under fire. While these traits speak to the elite nature of Range Troopers, it is without a doubt their offensive qualities that make them a worthwhile addition to Imperial ranks.

Masters of warfare against infantry formations, Range Troopers have several tools available to them to combat Rebel insurgents. The E-10R Blaster Rifle throws a single black die at range 4. This effective weapon is supported by a new keyword, Advanced Targeting: Trooper 1. When a unit with this keyword declares an attack against an enemy trooper unit, it gains 1 aim token. This gives Range Troopers extra lethality when attacking troopers.

Adding on to this punishing assault is the T-21A, overwhelming enemy Infantry at range 4 with the Suppressive keyword. If more direct anti-armor support is needed, the DLT-20A provides them with Impact 2 and two red dice at range 5. Finally, an extra Range Trooper can be added to the squad to round out this potent Support unit.
