SWP06General Obi-Wan Kenobi Preview

Today’s Star Wars™: Shatterpoint preview features the legendary Obi-Wan Kenobi during his prime as a proven Jedi General, when he was leading his troops to victory in the Clone Wars.

General Obi-Wan Kenobi serves as a vital link in the generational chain of mentorship and training that strengthened the Jedi Order. He was taught by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and himself oversaw the training of Anakin Skywalker, who would also rise to the standing of Jedi General and fight alongside him throughout the Clone Wars. General Kenobi commanded the 7th Sky Corps and often personally led its 212th Attack Battalion, assisted by Clone Commander CC-2224 (“Cody”), his second in command. While Obi-Wan would perform many famous deeds in his later years, there’s something particularly gratifying about seeing him in action at the height of his power, driven by events of the war, including the death of his former master Qui-Gon, who was killed in a duel with Darth Maul. General Kenobi eagerly anticipates righting that wrong and confronting this pernicious nemesis.

In battle, Obi-Wan Kenobi quickly assesses hostile situations to find the means to seize the initiative. Hello There! allows him to use the Force to leap forward during his attack, potentially catching an adversary off-guard and magnifying the impact of his strike. In addition to gaining 3 dice on his attack roll, this jump can allow him to get past otherwise impassable terrain or to effortlessly reach a higher elevation.

Though capable of swift and decisive assaults, General Obi-Wan had a reputation for being even-tempered and thoughtful, utilizing his skills and powers to defend his allies and calmly exploit the mistakes of his adversaries. Patience offers him the opportunity to briefly withdraw, delaying his turn and allowing another member of his squad to act in his stead, potentially repositioning via jump and gaining a moment’s reprieve to recuperate from minor damage. The Force is very much his ally, and if fired upon, he can react with So Uncivilized to acquire a Hunker token, representing his use of the lightsaber to ward off projectiles and send three damage back at his attackers.

Perhaps his most impressive capability is the way Obi-Wan assists his squad in using the environment to their advantage. Knowledge and Defense represents situational awareness, allowing his allies to ably defend themselves even when engaged in melee, keeping Hunker tokens and benefitting from them against melee attacks. This also affords members of his squad the option to reposition and heal themselves slightly after an attack, in exchange for abandoning a hunkered position.

Obi-Wan is also highly skilled with a lightsaber, having fought some of the most dangerous duelists ever confronted by the Jedi Order. This is represented in his unusual pairing of stances. His preferred Stance is Form III Soresu, a cerebral lightsaber fighting style representing resilience, defensiveness, and patiently choosing one’s strikes. With this style Obi-Wan is patient and difficult to rattle, timing his strikes while safeguarding his person. This capability is represented by a combat tree with ample healing, along with options to reposition, but neither is it lacking in wounding impact or ways to impair the foe.

Despite mastery of Soresu, Obi-Wan proves to be a flexible duelist, quite able to shift to his more aggressive Stance, Form IV Ataru, preferred by Jedi like Qui-Gon. In this more acrobatic form, Obi-Wan gives up defensive security in favor of trying to overwhelm his opponent with a flurry of fast and wild blows. This can result in more strikes, but possibly fewer critical results. Amid a barrage of attacks, enemies may be forced to focus on defending themselves, making it hard for them to retaliate with any precision.
