At AdeptiCon 2024, Matt DiPietro, Anthony Wang, and Aaron Lovejoy threw down yet another challenge / hobby project for a future game of Marvel: Crisis Protocol. Once the date was set, I knew I wanted to show up with something unexpected.
So, naturally, I kept the whole force under wraps. This wasn’t easy, especially since we had a few hobby sessions where we were all painting, planning the event, and trying to sniff out what everyone else was bringing. When we painted together, I stayed mysterious. When rosters came up, I gave nothing away. A shrug here, a vague answer there, maybe a little smile if someone started guessing too close. I wanted the reveal to feel like a proper entrance.
And on the day of the game, I finally got to put Mephisto on the table. Sitting on his throne at the head of the force, he was exactly the kind of centerpiece I wanted: dramatic, sinister, and ready to make the challengers regret asking for this game in the first place!
Mephisto was sculpted by our in-house team and eventually became the Convention Exclusive release for AdeptiCon 2026. To add to the theme of the army, I went with the idea that Mephisto had granted several characters the Spirit of Vengeance, so I had to get to work converting the minis to fit the theme of the game.
First up was Captain Marvel. Her intro sculpt from the original Core Set (CP01) was perfect to convert using parts from Ghost Rider and some sculpting putty. The idea of her rising off the base on a pillar of flame was just too cool not to do.
Second was Doctor Octopus. I just knew that the four tentacles needed to be Ghost Rider chains instead of the mechanical apparatus that Doc has. The visual was there, now to convert it. Several parts were used, and we ended up making custom in house pieces to finalize the conversion.
The final character needed presence. Needed gravitas. Needed to be… unstoppable. So of course I had to convert a Juggernaut! The flames on the head are sculpted, with parts of the wheels from the original Ghost Rider blended together. Next, the Cosmic Ghost Rider chains were added to the waist to create more drama in the mini.
With those three conversions complete, and a painted Mephisto, I was ready to play a game! However, earlier this year, I felt the need to add another mini to the squad. I pondered who I would like to add to the roster and eventually landed on Black Panther.
A Spirit of Vengeance Black Panther just sounded so rad in my head, so I set out to pick which Panther would be the foundation for the conversion. I chose the Warrior Falls Rivals Panel Black Panther and got to work. This was a straightforward conversion using parts from Cosmic Ghost Rider, original Ghost Rider, and some sculpting to finalize the work.

Now… what character would be a good conversion to “Spirit of Vengeance up” and add to my force?
Who… could… it… be….
Till next time,
Dallas
