SWZ96 Battle of Yavin

In our last transmission to the Galactic Empire at large, we talked about Darth Vader and the TIE/ln Fighters included in the Star Wars™: X-Win Battle of Yavin expansion. Today, we’ve got something for those pilots who are looking for a little more speed and maneuverability.

Then there are five new TIE/in Interceptors in the pack, all with Sensitive Controls. The first, Iden Versio, was previously seen in a TIE/ln Fighter. As a new Interceptor pilot, she traded her single-use ability for one that can only cancel one damage but is usable every other turn. Since she can protect any TIE, including herself, she can fly with a greater variety of squads than her original TIE/ln Fighter incarnation. You’ll want to use her actions defensively and depend on her upgrades for passive attack modifications.

The Sigma Squadron Interceptors can readily drop into any list. The exact one you choose will mainly depend on what role you need the ship to fill. Thanks to Primed Thrusters, Sigma 4 can do both reposition actions in the System Phase, then clear the stress with the great Interceptor dial, and perform a dice modification action! You can only do it twice, but that should be enough to get you out of (or into) trouble.

Sigma 5 is a more defensive Interceptor. Both of your upgrades and the pilot ability keep you alive. This Interceptor can do scenario actions and still dodge incoming attacks. You’ll want to pair them with ships that can target lock easily, so that they can use Sensor Jammer.

While Sigma 4 was the precise reposition Interceptor, Sigma 6 goes fast. Sigma 6 gives you access to the rarely seen SLAM action, twice per game. You’ll most often use the action after a 3-speed move, since the higher speeds will require you to move straight again. But sometimes you might need to get across the board instantly and Assault a Satellite that your opponent isn’t expecting you to control. Remember that you can use Afterburners (and Daredevil) after your SLAM!

Finally, Sigma 7 is the more offensively oriented Interceptor. You get two free target locks per game, and natively have the lock action on your action bar. Sigma 7’s upgrades are fully aggressive, so try to cause as much damage as possible before being destroyed.

The Battle of Yavin expansion pack offers a lot of exciting new options for Galactic Empire players. Vader and his wingmen will create a variety of new lists based around the trio, while other pilots will find homes in existing lists. These Rebels overestimate their chances.
