Announcing the Master of the Brush Painting Competition 

Hobbyists have been bringing iconic heroes, villains, and forces from the STAR WARS universe to life on the tabletop for years. Through color, technique, and countless hours at the painting table, our community has created truly remarkable works of miniature art. Now, it’s time to celebrate those creations with the ultimate test of hobby skill.

At AdeptiCon 2027, Atomic Mass Games is proud to introduce The Master of the Brush, an all-new miniature painting competition for hobbyists of STAR WARS: Legion and STAR WARS: Shatterpoint!

The Master of the Brush is about more than technical skill alone. Miniature painting is one of the ways hobbyists make the STAR WARS galaxy their own.  Whether you have spent years honing your craft or are preparing to enter a painting competition for the first time, the Master of the Brush is the perfect place to showcase your work and continue growing as an artist.

The Categories

Painters familiar with Atomic Mass Games painting competitions will recognize the three primary categories available in The Master of the Brush.

• Single Miniature
• Duel
• Squad

We also want the next generation of painters to have an opportunity to take part. The Padawan Open Category, available to hobbyists ages 14–18, gives younger painters a place to showcase a single miniature and begin their own journey toward hobby mastery.

Entries may feature miniatures from either STAR WARS: Legion or STAR WARS: Shatterpoint, and conversions are welcome within the competition guidelines. Every entry should capture the atmosphere and narrative of the STAR WARS galaxy and be presented on a scenic base interacting with a detailed environment.

The Attuned

Every painter who puts their work forward has already accomplished something worth celebrating. That’s why everyone who enters the Master of the Brush will become one of The Attuned and receive a commemorative participation patch marking their first step on the journey.

From there, our judges will evaluate each entry on its own merits. Rather than simply ranking every painter against one another, entries can earn bronze, silver, or gold recognition based on the quality of the work presented.

Our judges will consider elements including craftsmanship, composition, creativity, storytelling, and technical execution, among others. Just as importantly, we want to see your artistic vision. What matters is how intentionally and effectively the techniques you choose contribute to the finished piece.

Painters whose work earns bronze, silver, or gold recognition will achieve the rank of Jedi Knight and receive a commemorative coin marking their accomplishment. Those who earn gold will take the next step on their journey and advance to consideration for the title of Jedi Master.

From Jedi Knight to Grand Master

Gold entries from the Single Miniature, Duel, and Squad categories will advance to the next stage of judging, where one entry from each category will be selected to earn the title of Jedi Master.

At this level, technical excellence is only part of what our judges will be looking for. The strongest entries will pair exceptional execution with a clear artistic vision that captures the spirit of the Star Wars mythos.

Each participant who wins their category will attain the rank of Jedi Master and receive a special trophy recognizing their achievement.

But one final test remains!

Just as our Jedi Masters are selected from among the Jedi Knights, the three Jedi Masters will then be considered together, regardless of category. Our judges will take an even closer look at each entry to determine which painter will receive the competition’s highest honor: Jedi Grand Master.

The inaugural Jedi Grand Master will become the overall winner of the Master of the Brush and receive a special Grand Master Yoda trophy commemorating their achievement.

Join Us at AdeptiCon 2027

Entries for the Master of the Brush will be accepted at the Atomic Mass Games booth during AdeptiCon 2027 beginning Thursday, April 8, with submissions closing at 12:00 PM CT on Saturday, April 10. Judging will take place Saturday evening, with the results revealed during the Master of the Brush Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 11. 

All entries will be on display Saturday, giving AdeptiCon attendees the opportunity to experience the incredible creativity of the STAR WARS hobby community firsthand.
