Scene to Stats: Imperial Probe Droid

“There’s a meteorite that hit the ground near here. I want to check it out. It won’t take long…”

– Luke Skywalker, to Han Solo, Star WarsTM

As the Empire tightens its grip, ever more star systems threaten to slip through its fingers. To keep tabs on insurgents and saboteurs, the Empire sends forth its Imperial Probe Droids to tabulate and monitor from a distance. To the Empire, this information is power, such that the droids are programmed to self-destruct rather than fall into the hands of the foe. Coming to you from the front lines and translated from its original omnisignal unicode, join us for today’s Scene to Stats, where we look at this brand new addition to the Galactic Empire in Star Wars: Legion – the Imperial Probe Droid!

The Imperial Probe Droid joins the Galactic Empire faction as a new Droid Trooper unit, purpose-built to enhance the combat effectiveness of your army. As a Detachment unit, Probe Droids do not count against your maximum allowance of Special Forces units, allowing canny commanders to maximize their Order Pool with Special Forces to ensure their more valuable Imperial Death Troopers or Scout Troopers Activate when it would be most advantageous. The Imperial Probe Droids are in fact quite effective at Activating “early” in a game Round, as their Observe 3 free Card action allows them to mark enemy units for powerful follow-up attacks. Combined with the Disengage keyword, the Imperial Probe Droid is difficult to pin down, and can float deftly from combat to cover, tireless in its primary mission: reconnaissance.

The Imperial Probe Droid features the Infiltrate keyword, allowing them to range ahead of your main force and Deploy rapidly to Point-of-Interest tokens on the battlefield. Their printed Speed of 1 is deceptive – while they may not race across the open battlefield, Hover: Air 1 allows them to effortlessly navigate even treacherous terrain, and reach objectives, flanks, and high ground that would be challenging for common infantry. While the Imperial Probe Droid does wield a Light Blaster for self-defense, its most powerful deterrent against combat is its Self-Destruct 3 keyword. When it has suffered two or more Wounds, it may detonate, rolling 3 black attack dice and throwing damage and Suppression tokens at all units – friend or foe – within Range 1, and ignoring most common defenses while doing so.

The Rebellion is out there, and they must be found; no droid is more single-minded in this task than the Imperial Probe Droid. These droids will make a fantastic addition to any Galactic Empire army and also feature within the Blizzard Force and Tempest Force Battle Forces.
