“This is our Rebellion”
-Mon Mothma
The Rebel Alliance was born out of the actions of independently motivated individuals. Rebel Officers and Rebel Agents represent the best of these citizens—the ones who have cast aside all self-preservation to bring down the mechanisms of the Empire. These warriors have a mix of academy schooling, criminal backgrounds, and skills learned in the heat of battle, which are all represented by their chosen Doctrines, abilities, upgrades, and stats on their unit cards.
The Rebel Officer is a Commander, keeping the massed ranks of troopers in line while they fight for freedom. In contrast, the Operative Rebel Agent defends democracy by exploiting the seams in the fabric of the Empire which can be loosed and—eventually—pried apart. Both units’ adaptability on the battlefield makes them a constant threat; ready to make an impact wherever the fight rages. Keep reading to learn how you can resist and outmaneuver the oppressive forces of the Empire in your games of Star WarsTM: Legion.
As previously mentioned, Rebel Officers and Rebel Agents have access to a brand new type of upgrade: Doctrines. These reflect the Rebel mindset of flexibility and using whatever you have at your disposal to win. For example, Frontline Commander can increase the effectiveness of your soldiers, granting Dauntless to any allied Trooper at range 1 of the Officer. This Doctrine also gives the Officer Aid: Rebel Trooper Unit, Indomitable, Spur, and Tactical 1. Officers who are well versed in logistical strategy may instead want to equip Proven Tactician. This Doctrine gives the Officer Quick Thinking, Exemplar, and increases the unit’s Courage by 1. When allied Corps units are at range 1 of the Officer, those units gain Reinforcements.
Having proven themselves as a specialized fighter, the Reluctant Hero Doctrine gives the Rebel Agent Infiltrate and Relentless. Additionally, when this unit makes an Attack action, during the Form Attack Pool step, 1 of its Attack Pools gains Critical 1 for each Suppression token it has. This makes the Rebel Agent more powerful as it defends against attacks. Finally, Rebel Agents and Officers are known for embedding into civilian populations, waiting for their Imperial overlords to become lazy and vulnerable. You can emulate this tactic by equipping Unseen Saboteur, which gives the unit Prepared Position and Low Profile. This helps the Rebel Officer or Rebel Agent strike at the right moment and enables another allied non-Commander or Operative unit to make sure the battle is kicked off most effectively.
Rebel Agents and Officers have several upgrade slots that can be used to customize the unit further to cover a variety of situations. The Officer features 7 of these slots, while the Agent has a respectable 6. A new Gear upgrade, Combat Armor, can be purchased to increase the survivability of your unit, upgrading their defense dice from White to Red.
While buying additional protection is always attractive, it’s no match for a good blaster at your side. The Heavy Blaster Pistol gives an Officer or Agent Arsenal 2, and a solid increase in combat power. With Lethal 1, you’ll be able to effectively pick off targets at close ranges. If you’re looking to rush into close combat, the Vibro Axe gives the unit Charge, Impact 1, and Lethal 1. Finally, when it’s time for this specialist to reduce its target to a smoking ruin, equip the Repeating Blaster to finish the job. Firing a solid 1 Red, 2 Black, and 3 White dice, this fearsome weapon gives the Agent or Officer Precise 2, at the cost of reducing its maximum Speed by 1. Combine this weapon with Offensive Push to maximize Longshot and provide waves of covering fire while friendly troopers advance into the best position. The Repeating Blaster also combines well with Frontline Commander, which can help balance the loss of speed and provide even more aims.
Two new Command Cards can provide additional support in the fight against the Empire. The Rebel Officer can play Diversionary Tactics, a new 3-pip card that orders three Trooper units. When a unit is issued an Order with this card, it gains 1 Dodge token and 1 Observation token. This Command Card represents the risks taken to achieve victory. Waiting for the perfect moment, Battlefield Reconnaissance allows a patient Rebel Commander to delay their forces by gaining several advantage tokens equal to the current Round number. This can be used to force your enemy to reveal themselves too early and focus all your efforts on a critical objective.
